To me music is . . . .

Music is a part of our culture and it undeniably plays one of the most important roles in my life.  It can be found anywhere in the world and it’s used for a variety of things.  I couldn’t imagine my life without music.  Some people say that music doesn’t mean much to them and I truly feel bad for them.  It’s just something I cannot fathom.  I couldn’t imagine living my life without music being intertwined.  I would certainly be a very unhappy person without it, because it’s a release unlike any other.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a music teacher, a composer for movies or commercials, a lead singer of a band, an instrument player, part of a church choir, an orchestra member, involved in your school band, love singing karaoke, or even if you just like whistling tunes in the shower, music has a way of bringing people together.  It can tell you a lot about a person.  It not only gives us a way to express ourselves and who we are, it’s also a way of communicating how we feel.  Without it, life would be boring.

Music is in everything around us and starts from the beginning of our history.  It’s what makes you feel a certain way and what can make or break a moment.  It’s a complete emotional outlet.  It can improve focus and can cause us to feel more uplifted in our everyday lives.  Music connects us all and there is something out there for everyone.

Music influences our culture in many ways.  It can set moods and help create atmospheres.  Humans are behaviorally influenced by the way we feel.  That’s why we throw on an upbeat playlist while we’re working out or hit the dancefloor when a song we appreciate comes on.  The thirst for music is something that begins to take shape when you’re a child and continues to grow with you throughout your entire adult life.  I was brought up on what I consider to be the best music of all time, which is better known today as classic rock.  The 50’s through the 80’s are some of my favorite musical eras.  There are way too many to name, but my ultimate pick would have to be “The Beatles”.  I mean seriously, who doesn’t love them?

Music cleanses the understanding, inspires it, and lifts it into a realm which it would not reach if it were left to itself. – Henry Ward Beecher
